Lewis, Terry Pratchett, John Flanagan Member SinceMay 2014 URL https://www.goodreads.com/KatieBeitz edit data I was born and grew up in the South West region of Queensland, Australia. I have spent most of my life living in a small rural town and love the lifestyle that it brings. My writing is often inspired by the rugged and spectacular Australian landscapes as well as my love for adventure and fantasy novels.
I am an English teacher and I love my job. My hope is that every day I inspire my students to love the written word.
I have had two short stories published as part of the Stringybark Awards. The Shadow Miner is my first attempt at a novel.
"At night, I dream of the light, of the sun and a sky so far away that it can never be touched and when I wake in the morning, and the day begins, I can’t shake the feeling that we were never meant to live in the dark." Born into slavery in the shadow mines of the south, all Miri knows is a world of darkness until a terrible cave in frees her and she emerges on the surface and discovers the land of light. But even in the land of light, the shadows of the past cling and Miri must learn to take her place in the Great Story and help those around her to do the same.
